‘7’ Exhibition

[ 7 ] A mystic or sacred number. Among the Pythagoreans, were, and from time immemorial have been, accounted lucky numbers. In mathematics, 7 simply is an odd number which is not divisible into two equal parts, or which differs by a unit from an even number. But there are so many more mysteries hidden in the spiritual number 7. In numerology 7 signifies intellect and an introspective, analytical mind. It suggests the need to think deeply and the desire for seclusion. 7 is considered to contain veils which must first be uncovered, one after another, before illumination will ultimately be found. 7 is said to be sacred, and this is evidenced by the facts that the universe consists of 7 planets, there are 7 continents on planet Earth, there are 7 days in the week, 7 colours of the rainbow, 7 wonders of the world and 7 notes in the musical scale, …

Come and discover the power of this mystical number 7. An unique art show has been assembled to reflect the 7 sections of galleriiizu through featuring 7 different types of art. From January 7 till July 7 at 7 p.m.

‘KALAKOTABHARU’ EXHIBITION by MOHD NOOR MAHMUD
7 - 27 JANUARY 2006

‘KALAKOTABHARU’ or ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ Series is an exceptional and absolute work of art from the artist. He took 3½ years to complete 8 big pieces and another 2 years for the smaller pieces. In total, he spent between 200 to 350 hours on each masterpiece.

Essentially, KALAKOTABHARU or ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ reflects the artist’s close contact wit the environment that he lives in. The series portrays a combination of spiritual and perceptual elements in each composition. “Spiritual” refers to the influence of culture, religion, belief and the community he lived in. On the other hand, “Perceptual” refers to the physical elements, colours, shapes and forms that surround his day-to-day life in Kelantan. These art pieces truly
capture and document the essence of the East Coast. These nostalgic combinations can be felt through a close study. You will see art pieces that have been meticulously and precisely created with extreme levels of patience. This series is an absolute awe-inspiring example of
what makes a great artist.

Experimental Exhibition M’SIAN DIGITAL EXPERIMENTS & THE ‘USE AGAIN’
EXHIBITION

Ever since its foundation in 1998, galleriiizu has aimed to promote various forms of art providing forums even to niche art movements. Digital arts, graphics, photography and printing has become an acceptable way of creation and presentation by major museums and galleries all around the world and the work of Digital Artists is consistently gaining ground.

‘eX2 - 01’ offers insight into current research and innovations in art and technology, making the public aware of the possibilities of modern technologies in art and helping Digital Art to achieve acceptance in the Malaysian art market.

As part of galleriiizu’s ‘7’ exhibition series, this experimental art show is held to feature the Work of 7 Malaysian Digital Pioneers as well as hosting the ‘Use Again’ World Tour Exhibition.

Galleriiizu is honoured and delighted to host their Asian exhibition in Malaysia.

7 ASIDE - OFFSIGHT & INSIGHT MIXED ARTIST
7 - 27 MARCH 2006

7 ASIDE - OFFSIGHT & INSIGHT is about 2 groups of young aspiring artists, some have already created some marks on the art corridor walls and some are still carving and craving. This slightly different group exhibition shall illustrate the cultural diversity in Malaysia by showcasing the work of 7 Malays as well as 7 Chinese artists. Thus 7 Aside is about cross culture, about perception stamped by heritage and origin, about interpretation, about believes and practice.

Witness how the meaning of icons will change with the context they are applied at, how colour schemes vary, how motifs are shared within one group as a homogeneous form of identification, how distinctively different two groups of artists raised in the same country can perceive their surroundings - and yet how their Malaysian identity unites their work eventually.

Two teams, not competing against each other, but playing the game for a good cause. A friendly match build upon distinctive expressions and impressions.

‘comm.blk’ - AN INSTALLATION by FRANK WOO
7 - 27 APRIL 2006

Frank Woo’s installation “comm.blk” tries to illustrate the growing challenge of communication between regions and cultures and how the interpretation of the same – verbally or nonverbally exchanged – information varies according to the respective background and influencing factors. The work portrays communication from four different perspectives according to the four points of the compass – North, East, South and West. The artwork also deals with the barriers, obstructions and blocking factors of communication and the distortion of information through perception, censorship or manipulation as to be found in our everyday life.
With “comm.blk” Frank Woo created a colossal walkable art piece, which predominantly consists of polystyrene. Polystyrene represents one of the non-recyclable wastes of our society. By transforming used polystyrene into collectible art pieces, Frank Woo wants to highlight the importance of environmental protection through responsible handling of non-disposable waste.

SA’L’E - SUNDAY ART ‘LELONG’ EXHIBITION SERIES

SA’L’E. Sunday Art ‘Lelong” Exhibition is an exhibition of Young Malaysian Designer’s, Artist and Craftpeople showcasing their Limited Editions and ‘one-of-a-kind’ works of art. It aims to serve art lovers, aficionados and the residences of Kuala Lumpur to come together and shop for this high quality produce of art in association with other attractions at the gallery. The key feature of this SA’L’E exhibition is ‘Lelong’ or Auction on selected product conducted on every Sundays. Art talks and Workshop will be conducted during lunch time every Friday from 12.30 to 2.30pm.
Admission is free.

MAN+GOD - 3 YEARS ON THE ROAD

Man + God is a ‘Designers’ Poster Art’ series of non-religious design collaborations with artists/ designers from Africa, Austria, Brazil, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, The Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States.

This exhibition is dedicated to explores the relationship between man and god from a different perspective- through the eyes and ideas of designers around the world. Successfully launched at the National Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur, back in April 2003, Man + God has so far traveled to Penang, Singapore, New York, Stuttgart Germany and now back to Kuala Lumpur. This up-dated sequel will be exhibited till 30th June, 2006; a series of talks conducted by international and local guest speakers, installations and other art paraphernalia promotions. These activities aspire to reach a wide audience in Malaysia, particularly the students and designers of the new generation. Participating in this art event will gives our young talents an opportunity and privileged to see the works from top notch worldwide designers as well as to learn from them.

7 ASIDE - OFFSIGHT & INSIGHT Exhibition, 7th of March 2006

A very unique exhibition gathers 14 painters from different art background with various of styles. From figures, to Lotus, to abract paintings, the artists had surely express themselves beautifully on their canvas. I manage to get a glance with extra-ordinary works by the participating artists and was very much inspired.
